ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Nazareth men's basketball earned another conference win at home on Friday night against Elmira. Luke Insley had a career-high 14 assists to aid the Golden Flyers in the victory.
With the win, the Golden Flyers improve their record to 6-1 in the conference and 11-5 overall while Elmira drops to 1-6 in the conference and 5-11 overall.
Elmira started strong out of the gate with a 7-0 run, but Nazareth came back with a 15 point run to go up by eight halfway through the first half. With just under three minutes left in the half, the Golden Flyers had extended their lead to 17. An Elmira layup at the buzzer put Nazareth up 38-23 heading into the final 20 minutes of play.
Scoring for the Flyers in the first half was Tyler Putney with 11, Jaylen Savage and Jack Broderick with seven each, Ryan Broderick with three, and Merritt Holly, Solomon McFarlane, Insley, Liam Hopwood, and Gabe Lucarelli each with two.
In the second half, Nazareth went 52.13% from the field and 40% from the three to give the Golden Flyers the edge over Elmira. By the time the half was halfway over, Nazareth held a 20-point lead over the Soaring Eagles. For the remainder of the game, Nazareth hovered around that 20 point margin, and the game concluded at a score of 80-61 in favor of the Golden Flyers.
Savage had a double-double consisting of 26 points and 11 rebounds. Insley had an impressive 14 assists, while also tallying two points and two rebounds. J Broderick finished the game with 13 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, while Putney had 11 points, three rebounds, and two steals. McFarlane put up eight points and grabbed three rebounds, while teammate Hopwood had six points and grabbed five rebounds. Zachary McFarland contributed five points to the scoreboard, while Lucarelli added four points, five rebounds, and two blocks. R Broderick had three points and two rebounds, while Holly had two points and two rebounds.
The Golden Flyers will be back in action on January 25th for a 4 p.m. showdown at home against the visiting Keuka Wolves.
