NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College men's basketball standouts Matt Seidl (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) and Nathan Plotner (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) propelled the Presidents past Westminster during their second meeting of the season, 88-79.

The win lifts the Presidents record at 9-4 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play and 13-5 overall.

Four players finished with double figures in the scoring column. Seidl led the way with another strong effort, tallying 22 points in his second-consecutive game breaking through the 20-point margin. Sophomore Cameron Rowell (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) added 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Rowell was followed closely by freshman Michael Plasko (McDonald, Pa./ South Fayette) who tacked on 16 points. Matthew Carte (Ravenswood, W.Va. / Ravenswood) rounded out the quartet of top scorers with 11 points on the afternoon.

Plotner registered a near double-double, pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds while also contributing eight points to the Presidents offensive efforts.

Two back-to-back buckets from beyond the arc off the hands of freshmen Quinton Burlenski (Bridgeport, Ohio/Central Catholic) and Plasko put the Red & Black ahead 8-5 in the opening minutes of regulation. W&J held the lead until the 10:54 mark where a layup put the Titans back in the driver's seat, 18-17. The Presidents regained the lead for the remainder of the first half after an eight-point run, fueled by a layup from Rowell matched with triples from Burlenski and Seidl, to jump out 32-24. W&J closed out the remainder of the half ahead with a slim lead heading into the break, 37-35.

W&J came out on a scoring spree in the second half, tallying the first 12 consecutive points and accruing a 14-point lead, 49-35. That spurt helped the Presidents put away the Titans as the Presidents remained ahead by at least an eight-point margin until the final minute of play. Westminster was able to cut the deficit to single digits to end with a final score of 88-79 in favor of the Red & Black.

W&J held a strong advantage in second-chance points with an 11-6 differential. The Presidents also held edges in paint points (44-42) and fastbreak points (24-21).

W&J hosts Grove City on Wednesday (Jan. 29) in the Salvitti Family Gymnasium. Start time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
