Goetz's Career-High Guides No. 7 Men's Basketball To Ninth Straight Win

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Graduate Grayson Goetz (Aurora, Ill.) scored a career-high 35 points and No. 7 Wisconsin Lutheran College won its ninth straight game on Saturday with a 91-78 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory over Aurora at Time of Grace Center.

The Warriors (16-1, 9-1 NACC), who shot over 50 percent from the floor for the fifth time this season, also connected on a season-high 57.9 percent of its three-point shots.

WLC came out of the gates hot, jumping out to a 10-4 lead with 17 minutes remaining in the opening half. After both teams exchanged baskets, the Spartans responded with a 9-4 run to tie the game at 17-17 with 11:26 left. A three from graduate Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.) and a layup from Goetz quickly put Wisconsin Lutheran in front by five with nine minutes to play in the half. The Warriors still led by five, 30-25, before four straight points from senior Jaxon Borchardt (Aurora, Co.) gave WLC a nine-point advantage with 4:30 remaining. Wisconsin Lutheran closed out the final two-and-a-half minutes on a 10-3 run behind a pair of threes from Goetz as it headed to the locker room ahead 44-34. Goetz finished with 19 points in the opening 20 minutes.

The Warriors opened the second half on an 11-5 run to give themselves a 55-39 lead with 17:38 to play. AU answered by scoring the next seven points, cutting its deficit back to single digits. Both teams continued to exchange buckets as WLC held a 61-52 advantage with 12 minutes left. A 7-2 run from Wisconsin Lutheran, all of which came courtesy of Goetz, put the hosts back up 16 at 70-54 with 10 minutes remaining. Aurora wasn't able to cut its deficit to single digits, as the Warriors surpassed the 90-point plateau for the sixth time this season.

Goetz led all scorers with a career-high 35 points and a game-high five assists. Graduate Jacob Hefle (Germantown, Wis.) added 13 points and senior AJ Vos (Lombard, Ill.) chipped in 12 points with two blocks. WLC shot 55.4 percent (31-for-56) from the field and 57.9 percent (11-for-19) from three-point range. 

Dwayne Jervier Jr. tallied 23 points and eight rebounds for the Spartans (8-10, 6-5 NACC), who shot 47.5 percent (28-for-59) from the floor.

Wisconsin Lutheran returns to Time of Grace Center on Wednesday for a NACC matchup against Lakeland (6-11, 5-5 NACC). Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
