DePauw Hangs on for NCAC Win at Kenyon

Gambier, Ohio - DePauw built a 17-point, first-half lead before Kenyon closed to within three, but the Tigers held on for a 59-56 North Coast Athletic Conference road win. The Tigers improved to 9-9 overall and 5-4 in the NCAC, while the Owls dropped to 3-15 overall and 1-8 in conference play.

DePauw held a 28-11 lead after Reph Stevenson's bucket with 6:30 left in the first half, but Kenyon responded with a 9-1 run and the teams headed to the intermission with DePauw holding a 31-20 lead.

Kenyon opened the second half with six straight to close the gap to five and were within four at 33-29 before DePauw answered with 11 straight to push the lead to 44-29 with 11:17 remaining.

The Owls chipped away at the Tigers' lead and closed the margin to four at 57-53 on Geffen Bar-Cohen's 3-pointer at the 1:25 mark. DePauw's Brady Kunka hit a jumper with 53 seconds left to give DePauw a 59-53 lead and Bar-Cohen drew Kenyon within three as he buried a trey with 41 seconds remaining.

The Tigers failed to convert on their offensive possession and the Owls missed a pair of 3-pointers with Stevenson getting a hand on the first and rebounding the second to seal the win.

Stevenson led DePauw with 13 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, while Caleb Washington followed with 11 and Joe Smith added a career-high 10.

Bar-Cohen paced Kenyon with 22 points with Marius Mazeila grabbing eight rebounds. Nick Nelson led with four assists and three steals.

The Tigers shot 43.1 percent from the floor to Kenyon's 39.0 percent. Kenyon held a 38-32 rebounding edge.

DePauw returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 29, with a 7 p.m. NCAC game at Wabash.
