Randolph Men’s Basketball Dominates Regent 116-61

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team hosted Regent in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon at Giles Gymnasium. The WildCats controlled the contest from start to finish as they defeated the Royals by the score of 116-61.

The win snaps Randolph's 10-game winless streak. The WildCats improve to 6-11 overall on the season.

The 116 points are the second highest in program history and the most in regulation time. The WildCats also set team records for field goals attempted (97), three-point field goals attempted (44), and total rebounds (62).

Randolph never trailed as it scored the game's first points on a three-point basket by Jordan Phillips-McLoyd (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill). It was a 12-8 game in the WildCats' favor with 15:19 showing on the game clock. The 'Cats 25-8 run that encompassed almost eight minutes of game time staked Randolph to a 24-point lead, 40-16, with just under seven minutes to play in the half. The 'Cats would go on to lead by as much as 30 points and were ahead 52-27 at halftime.

The WildCats outscored the Royals 64-34 in the second half. Their biggest lead of the game happened with 37 seconds left as Ryan Liero's (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) three pointer gave Randolph its 55-point margin of victory.

Randolph was 45-of-97 (46.4%) on the night from the floor and 16-of-44 (36.4%) in three-point attempts. The WildCats led in the paint 54-32, in points off turnovers 33-18, second chance points 26-10, and in bench points 67-25.

Five WildCats reached double figures led by Phillips-McLoyd's 18 points. He also dished out four assists. Landon Wagoner (Martinsville, Va./Carlisle School) added 12 points and five rebounds. Liero finished with 12 points and four rebounds. Rayvon Graham (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) chipped in 11 points and did Elijah Cox (Galax, Va./Carroll County). Maurice Davis (Richmond, Va./James River) led the team in rebounds with a career-high 13 and scored seven points.

Randolph returns to ODAC play on Wednesday when it hosts Ferrum. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
