ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Garrett Cox's career-high 28 points and Garrison Linton two rebounds shy of a triple double lead a second half demolishment of conference rival Eastern with a score of 121-78 as the second most points scored in a game in program history on Saturday afternoon.
Inside the Box Score
Garrett Cox hit seven three-pointers while earning three blocks on his career day.
Garrison Linton dropped 18 points along with eight rebounds and a program record tying 12 assists on the afternoon.
Javon Yarbrough not to be overshadowed scored 19 and pulled down seven boards.
How it Happened
The day for Cox and Blazers started on their first defensive possession, with a layup inside the lane rejected before leaving the hands of 15.
Both squads had traded a couple of buckets in the first five, but many possessions ended in missed layups and turnovers to give an early theme of the game.
However, Hood was willing to push the envelope with the tempo in hopes that a battered Eastern squad could not keep up.
With Hood's bread and butter being play in the paint and then Hood draining eight threes at a 44 percent clip, the Blazers kept the 10-plus point lead.
The lead could settle in the second half as Hood had done continuously this season but for Cox the "Let it Fly" mentality kicked in and when it rained, it poured.
Seven seconds into the second half his first three went down, and then with the ball back in hands the next time he netted another.
Losing to Albright in the previous matchup where scoring was the bottom that Hood had all season, the push to go up big was on.
"Well, that was fun. Loved the focus and intensity we played with today," said head coach Chad Dickman. "We got contributions from everyone and kept the energy sky high all game. When we play our style of ball, we're really tough to beat. That's a really good team and we just carved them up all game."
Notes
Hood improves to 10-5, and 3-1 in conference to move to second place behind York.
Eastern falls to 8-7, 1-3 in conference and sits in sixth.
121 points is second all-time in program history since the 124-point effort against Gallaudet in 2008. This marks the most in a conference game breaking the 111 points they scored against Stevenson back in the 2019-20 season.
The 41-for-78 clip had entered Top 5 in field goals made and Top 10 in field goals attempted.
