(CHICAGO, Ill.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team traveled to Chicago, Illinois Friday and left with a 63-57 victory to the University of Chicago. The Tartans are now 10-3 overall and 1-1 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. The Maroons moved to 10-3, 1-1.

How it Happened
- Junior Justin Allen scored 10 of the first 13 points for the Tartans as the visitors took an early 13-10 lead midway through the first half.
- The lead then changed hands four times the remainder of the half before the Tartans held a 22-21 edge at the break.
- Carnegie Mellon kept Chicago to 18.8% (6-32) shooting from the field over the first twenty minutes of play while the Tartans converted just 28.6% (10-35).
- Behind the arc, the Tartans were 1-of-11 to the Maroons 2-of-14.
- A traditional three-point play by freshman Alex Hassanein at the 13-minute mark gave the Tartans a 36-31 advantage. Allen then added a free throw a minute later to give the Cardinal and Gray a 37-31 lead.
- Chicago then went on a 9-2 run and knotted the score at 40-all with nine minutes remaining.
- Two minutes later, Carnegie Mellon scored seven straight points over a two-minute span and led 52-45.
- A layup by Allen with 1:38 left on the clock gave the Tartans a 59-51 lead.
- The Maroons wouldn't go away and cut the score to 59-56 with 20 ticks showing.
- A fastbreak dunk by Allen with 10.5 seconds remaining and a pair of foul shots by graduate student R.J. Holmes in the closing seconds sealed the Tartans victory.

- The Tartans shot 37.3% (25-67) from the floor and converted 5-of-22 from behind the arc for 22.7%.
- Allen, the second leading scorer in Division III, led all scorers with 36 points after he converted 16-of-30 from the floor.
- Holmes led the Tartans with 11 rebounds.

- The Maroons shot 30.0% (18-60) from the floor and converted 4-of-26 from behind the arc for 15.4%.
- Eamonn Kenah led Chicago with 15 points. Joe Berry and Thomas Kurowski each finished with 13 points.
