LA VERNE, Calif. – Cal Lutheran tallied its first win of the new year, taming La Verne 95-62 on Wednesday evening.
It was pure dominance from the Kingsmen, who recorded their second-highest-scoring game and second-largest margin of victory (33) of the season.
Cal Lutheran (10-3, 3-1) notched its third win in SCIAC play, getting back in the win column after its eight-game win streak was broken against Chapman on January 4.
The Kingsmen were firing on all cylinders, shooting 47% from the field and 45% from beyond the three-point arc. The Leopards (3-8, 0-4) shot just 37% and 33%, respectively.
Despite the high score, the Kingsmen were able to distribute the wealth offensively, with three players scoring at least 10 points: Devon Lewis (18), Jake Martin (11), and Nick Attanasio (10). Four additional Kingsmen finished with seven points.
After the Leopards pulled within one with 15 minutes to go, the Kingsmen would never let the lead dwindle to fewer than three before taking an 11-point lead into halftime. It was the same story in the second half, as they kept the Leopards at an arm's distance all half and ended the game with an 11-4 run to cap off their tenth win of the year.
The Kingsmen are back in action at 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 18 against Caltech at Gilbert Arena.
Cal Lutheran's game at Occidental, which was canceled last weekend due to the LA wildfires, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 11.
