Glassboro, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team extended their win streak to seven with a NJAC road win over Rowan University, 64-62. The Roadrunners move to 11-3 overall and 5-2 in the league while the Profs fall to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the NJAC.
The game was highly contested throughout before the Profs took a seven-point lead late in the second half with less than 6:40 left to play. Khalif Mears hit a three-pointer for Rowan to take a 53-46 lead. A pair of free throws from Shane Rooney started a 6-0 run for Ramapo to come within one as Peter Gorman capped it off with back-to-back baskets, 52-53. The two teams traded baskets before Brycen Williams hit a three-pointer for the Profs with 3:49 on the clock for a 58-54 lead. With under 3:30 to play Ramapo's Anthony Corbo scored on a putback before Rooney added a jumper to tie the game at 58 with 2:51 on the clock. The game would be tied at 60 as Rooney scored a jumper for the Roadrunners. Mears added two at the other end for the Profs to go up two with 1:26 remaining. At the other end, Ramapo's first shot missed while Rooney grabbed a crucial offensive rebound before Corbo was fouled on the play. Corbo sank both at the line (1:18) to tie the game at 62. The Profs missed a three-pointer on their possession with 49 seconds remaining before the Roadrunners did not convert a pair of free throws with 23 seconds on the clock. On the second miss, Rooney grabbed his eighth rebound of the game to keep the ball in Ramapo's hands. Following a Ramapo timeout, Gorman sank a crucial pullup jumper with six seconds remaining to take the 64-62 lead. A last second shot from Mears as time expired just missed as Ramapo came away with the NJAC road victory.
Four starters scored in double figures for the Roadrunners this afternoon as they were led by Gorman who tallied 15 points. Myers added 14 points and eight rebounds while Corbo put in 12 points and led the way with nine rebounds. Rooney added ten points and eight rebounds while Elijah Barlow contributed with seven points. The Roadrunners shot 42% (27-63) from the field, 18% (2-11) from the three-point line and 80% (8-10) from the free throw line.
For the Profs, Mears tallied 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Chris McCarron added 12 points. Brycen Williams and Danny Flemming each contributed with 11 points. Rowan shot 39% (24-61) from the field, 33% (9-27) from the three-point line and 83% (5-6) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 15th as they host William Paterson University at 7:30pm.
