(ITHACA, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team, ranked 19th nationally, traveled to Ithaca, New York on Saturday afternoon and left with an 87-73 victory over the Bombers of Ithaca College. The Tartans improved to 8-2 while the Bombers are now 5-4.

How it Happened
- The Tartans jumped out to a 10-3 lead three minutes into the contest, but five straight points by the Bombers cut the Cardinal and Gray lead to 10-8 with 16:11 on the clock.
- Carnegie Mellon then rattled off 19 straight points and extended its lead to 29-8 at the 11:20 mark.
- During the run, the Tartans converted 8-9 from the floor including a 3-3 effort from behind the arc with junior Justin Allen leading the charge with 11 points.
- Ithaca responded by scoring the next eight points which made the score 29-16 with nine minutes to play in the first half.
- With the Tartans leading 32-16, Ithaca went on another spirt over a three-minute span, scoring 12 straight that made the score 32-28.
- Junior Buckley DeJardin stopped the Bombers' run scoring the Tartans final seven points of the first half, as the Tartans took a 39-31 lead into the locker room.
- A 7-0 run by the Tartans four minutes into the second half pushed the visitors' lead to 55-42.
- The Bombers once again answered putting together a 12-3 run over the next two minutes to make the score 58-54 as 11:25 showed on the clock.
- The Tartans went on to score 10 of the next 13 points and with 7:02 to play in regulation led 68-57.
- The home team didn't go away, as the Bombers scored seven straight and cut the deficit to 68-64 with five minutes left.
- Carnegie Mellon closed the game on a 14-5 which secured the 87-73 victory for the Tartans.
Tartan Stats
- After shooting 57.7% (15-26) from the floor in the first half, the Tartans shot 59.3% (16-27) in the second half to end the game shooting 58.5% (31-53) from the floor. Carnegie Mellon made 8-of-19 (42.1%) from behind the arc.
- DeJardin finished the game with a career-high 32 points after he converted 11-of-17 from the floor which included 4-of-6 from long range.
- Allen ended with 22 points.
- Graduate student R.J. Holmes scored 16 points and grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds. Holmes also dished out five assists and recorded two blocks.
Bombers Stats
- The Bombers finished shooting 36.9% (24-65) from the floor and made 7-of-27 (25.9%) from behind the arc.
- Evan Cabral and Logan Wendell led the Bombers with 19 points each.
Game Notes
- Carnegie Mellon is 7-0 this season when holding its opponents to 75 points or less.
- It was the first career 30-point game for DeJardin.
- Holmes now has 28 career double-doubles, including six this season.
- Holmes moved into sixth all-time in career rebounds for a Tartan. He has 736 for his career and needs 10 more to move into fifth.
- It marked Allen's eighth game this season of scoring 20 or more points.
