HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Hood's men's basketball team went down to the wire but fell to New Jersey City
University 81-79 in their opening game of the Doc Greene Tournament hosted by Juniata on Sunday afternoon.
Inside the Box Score
Kullen Robinson (Alexandria, Va./Alexandria City) tied his career high 26 points and shot over 50 percent from the field on the night.
Garrison Linton (New Market, Md./Oakdale) grabbed eight boards with five assists and four steals.
How Happened
Scoring for the Blazers started with back-to-back three-pointers by Robinson and another by Huseby holding off the closely trailing opponent for the first seven minutes.
New Jersey City put pressure on Hood with their play in the paint, outscoring the Blazers and only making one three pointer in the first half.
The last six and a half minutes of the half consisted of no points for the opposing Gothic Knights and two buckets for the Blazers including a bucket from deep by Karron Mallory (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) to put the Blazers up by five.
Foul trouble by the Gothic Knights put the Blazers at the line to start the half and pushed their lead to ten at one point.
Hood held onto the lead until less than two minutes remaining when the opposition shot at a higher clip and with help from good rebounding took the lead for the first time since the first half.
At the 1:22 mark Robinson got his layup to go to take the lead by one but less than a minute passed seconds passed before New Jersey City's Hakeem Wilson hit a jumper to take the lead back for good.
"Tough loss to a good team, but I felt like we gave that one away," said head coach Chad Dickman. "We have learn to end the game when we've got teams on the ropes and we haven't been able to do that yet. They made all the plays they needed to late in the game and we didn't."
