HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- All-American fifth-year guard and third-year team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) scored a game-high 29 points, adding five rebounds and a game-high three steals, to lead nationally-ranked No. 7 Hampden-Sydney College to a 95-74 non-conference home win past Eastern (PA) University in the Charlie Cobb Classic on Saturday evening in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. Junior transfer guard Hamilton Campbell (Wytheville) contributed a career-high 22 points off the bench for the Tigers, adding a game-high five assists, and senior guard Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) posted his first career double-double with career-highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts who closed the contest on a 33-15 run to improve to 9-2 overall. Arkese Claiborne had 18 points for the visiting Eagles, who trailed 46-37 at halftime, and dropped to 7-4 overall. Brazil was named to the All-Classic Team, along with Claiborne, Colin Ryan of Washington and Lee, and David Gentry of John Carroll (OH)—Gentry also named MVP of the event.

H-SC, ranked No. 7 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, scored the first five points of the game with a layup from junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) and a three-point field goal by Brazil. EU took an 8-7 lead at 15:58, but the Tigers answered back to lead 12-8 at 13:28 on a basket inside from sophomore guard William Britt (Richmond). The two teams battle evenly for a majority of the first half, tied at 17-17 (10:49), 29-29 (4:49) and 35-35 (2:30), before the Garnet & Grey outscored the Eagles 11-2 over the final 2:09 to lead 46-37 at halftime. Hamilton Campbell scored five of the late points, while Brazil added four and freshman guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) had a basket, as well—Brazil finishing the opening 20 minutes with 20 points.

H-SC extended its advantage to begin the second half, pushing the margin to 60-46 at 14:19, getting points from four different players, including the last seven from Hamilton Campbell. EU used a quick 13-2 run to close to within 62-59 with 9:38 remaining, but the Tigers responded with six-straight points from Brazil (4) and freshman forward John Campbell (High Point, NC) to lead 68-59 at 8:21 … starting a quick 17-5 run for a 79-64 advantage with 5:37 on the clock. John Campbell added a transition slam dunk off a lob pass from Stickney during the outburst, while Brazil and Hamilton Campbell each added three-pointers. The Garnet & Grey took their first 20-point margin courtesy of an offensive rebound basket by Shryock, and a layup from John Campbell provided for the final margin of victory.

Brazil led H-SC with his game-high 29 points, including 6-6 free throws, adding his five rebounds, game-high three steals and two assists. Hamilton Campbell finished with his career-high 22 points for the Tigers, including 4-8 three-pointers, and his game-high five assists. Shryock had his first career double-double with his game-highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Radcliffe had 10 points, and John Campbell finished with eight points, while Stickney contributed five points, seven rebounds and four assists. H-SC shot 45% (34-76) from the field, including 30% (9-30) on three-pointers, and 72% (18-25) at the free throw line.

Claiborne led EU with his 18 points and 11 rebounds. Zubair Lee finished with a double-double of 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Eagles, adding a game-high five assists, as well. EU shot 49% (24-49) from the field, including 35% (6-17) on three-pointers, and 77% (20-26) at the line.

H-SC will be idle for the Christmas and New Year's holidays before returning to competition at Old Dominion Athletic Conference member the University of Lynchburg on January 4, 2025, at 7 p.m. in Lynchburg.
