ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Luke Insley and Jaylen Savage combined for a total of 50 points in an exciting 83-78 overtime win over Alfred University on Saturday night. Insley led the scoring with 26, while Savage added 24 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.

The Golden Flyers improves its record to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while Alfred drops to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

The first half was extremely back-and-forth, neither team leading by more than six points at one time. Nazareth led by six with one minute and 24 seconds remaining in the half, but the Saxons scored a three and two free-throws to cut the lead to one at the half. Insley and Savage had 12 and eight points in the first half, while teammate Tyler Putney added four. Solomon McFarlane dropped in a three, while Will Burnett and Merritt Holly added two a piece.

The start of the second half was similar in nature to the first half, very back and forth. But around 11 minutes into game play, Nazareth went up eight on the Saxons, who were able to cut that lead back down to one only two minutes later. With 20 seconds left in regulation, the Golden Flyers were only up by one. Two freethrows from Liam Hopwood gave Nazareth a three-point cushion, which proved to be important as the Saxons took a layup the other way with 15 seconds left. At the 11 second mark, Insley was fouled and made his first one-and-one bucket to give the Golden Flyers a two-point lead. With three seconds left, Alfred weaved through defenders to get a layup to tie the game at 71. A half court heave from Insley was no good, and the game was sent into overtime.

Scoring in the second half for the Golden Flyers was; Savage with 13, Insley with eight, Holly and Hopwood with six, and McFarlane with five.

In the five-minute overtime, Nazareth outscored the Saxons 12-7, to earn the 83-78 win. Scoring the 12 points for the Golden Flyers in overtime was Insley with four, Savage and McFarlane with three each, and Hopwood with two.

Insley led the scoring with 26 points, while also tallying four rebounds, five assists, one block, and one steal. Savage had a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while adding two blocks, two steals, and an assist. McFarlane was the next highest scorer for the Golden Flyers with 11 points, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Hopwood and Holly each added eight points, while Holly added seven rebounds, and Hopwood added five and two blocks. Putney added six rebounds and four points to the board, while Burnett added a bucket.

The Golden Flyers will be back on the court on December 17th at 4 p.m. as they travel to Virginia to play Randolph College at University of Lynchburg.
