Camden, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team earned a NJAC road win today at Rutgers-Camden University, 84-71. The Roadrunners improve to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors now stand at 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Ramapo opened up an 11-4 lead in the first six minutes of the game. A layup from Elijah Barlow gave the team their first double digit lead of the game with 11 minutes on the clock, 20-10. A mini 8-4 run from the Scarlet Raptors cut the Ramapo lead to just six with less than eight minutes on the clock before Peter Gorman sank a three-pointer, 27-18. Barlow sparked a 12-5 run with a three-pointer before he capped off the run with a pair of free throws as Ramapo led at the half, 43-26.
The Roadrunners opened up a 22-point lead in the second half as Gorman sank another three-pointer with 15:23 on the clock. The two teams traded baskets with Ramapo adding nine points to their lead, capped off with a jumper from Barlow, 59-42. Ramapo held a double digit lead the whole second half. The Scarlet Raptors were able to cut it to 12 three times the final 13 minutes of action as the Roadrunners had an answer every time.
Gorman led the way with 22 points including two three-pointers and finishing 6-6 from the free throw line. Jordan Myers added 11 points, five rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal while Justin Bladen recorded a season high 13 points. Barlow also posted 13 points and added two rebounds and two steals. Tim Linton contributed with seven points, seven rebounds and one steal. The team shot 50% (28-55) from the field, 35% (5-14) from the three-point line and 82% (23-28) from the free throw line. Ramapo forced 19 Scarlet Raptor turnovers which led to 24 points for the Roadrunners.
Cameron Downs led Rutgers-Camden with 19 points while Eric Benjamin posted 11 and Cherif Kanoute added ten. The Scarlet Raptors shot 51% (22-43) from the field, 31% (6-19) from the three-point line and 77% (21-27) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, December 11th when they travel to Montclair State University for a NJAC game at 7:30pm.
