Junior wing Jessee Battle buried a pair of 3-pointers and fifth-year post Tony Carter scored 5 points during a 13-0 game-opening run, and 4 different Ohio Wesleyan players set or equaled career bests as the Bishops defeated Capital in non-conference play on Tuesday in Columbus.

Battle opened the evening's scoring with his pair of trifectas, and when Carter followed with a lay-in and a 3-pointer, the Bishops were up, 11-0, exactly 5 minutes into the action.  Senior guard Henry Hinkle followed with a fast-break lay-in for a 13-0 lead at the 13:54 mark, and the Bishops would lead, 17-2, after a pair of buckets by junior wing Quinn Corna.

The Comets rallied with a pair of 7-0 runs, with an Alex Eyink 3-pointer highlight one burst that brought the hosts within 17-9, and a Daryl Cooper 3-pointer capping another 7-0 spurt that made it a 33-29 contest late in the first half.

Carter and senior post Phil Wallace connected from long range to stretch the margin back into double digits at the half, and the Bishops opened the second half with baskets from freshman guard Quinn Hart and Wallace for a 43-29 lead.

Capital assembled an 8-0 run that included a pair of 3-pointers from McKane Finkenbine to pull within 48-44, but 3-pointers from Battle and Wallace helped Ohio Wesleyan extend the lead, and a lay-in by junior guard Isaac Ward gave the Bishops a 63-51 lead midway through the period.

From there, the Bishops kept the Comets at arm's length, not allowing Capital to come closer than 6 points until the final minutes of the game, when a Justin Nixon lay-in made it 79-74 with 1:08 remaining, but Ohio Wesleyan put the game away at the free throw line, with Carter going 4-for-4 from the stripe and Hinkle splitting a pair of free throws during the final minute.

Battle led the Bishops with a career-high 26 points.  Carter and Wallace each recorded double-doubles, with Carter collecting a career-high 20 points and a season-high 10 rebounds while Wallace finished with a season-high 11 points and matched his career best with 13 boards.  Corna also matched his career best, scoring 12 points, and Hinkle finished with 11 points and a season-high 8 assists, one short of his career best.
