WLC Flies Past CUW, Remains Perfect On The Season

MEQUON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Graduate Grayson Goetz (Aurora, Ill.) scored a game-high 23 points to lead four players in double figures as 11th-ranked Wisconsin Lutheran College capped off a perfect first month of the season with an 85-67 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Concordia Wisconsin on Tuesday at R. John Buuck Field House.

The Warriors (6-0, 2-0 NACC), who tied their best start to a season in program history, outscored the Falcons 26-5 in points off turnovers.

WLC erased an early 2-0 deficit, the only time it trailed in the game, with seven straight points from senior AJ Vos (Lombard, Ill.) and Goetz. Goetz gave Wisconsin Lutheran its first double-digit lead at 15-4 following a three-pointer at the 15:23 mark. Graduate Jacob Hefle (Germantown, Wis.) hit the first of his four three-pointers to give the Warriors an 18-6 advantage and a double-digit lead that they would never relinquish. CUW trailed by 11 points at 29-18, but WLC closed the final five minutes of the first half on a 12-4 run to take a 41-22 lead into halftime. Goetz led all scorers with 12 points in the opening half, as Wisconsin Lutheran shot 48.5 percent from the floor.

Three-pointers from Hefle and graduate Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.) highlighted an 11-0 scoring run in the opening minute-and-a-half of the second half to extend the Warriors' lead to 30 points. The advantage reached a game-high 34 points when Goetz converted a three-point play with 13:37 remaining. A 10-0 run from Concordia Wisconsin brought its deficit down to 24 points with 10:45 to play, but WLC maintained at least a 20-point cushion nearly the rest of the way. The Falcons closed the contest with eight straight points over the final 1:45 to trim the final margin under 20 points. Wisconsin Lutheran outscored CUW 17-1 in points off turnovers in the second half.

Goetz finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists for the Warriors. Stoltz added 13 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Hefle, who was 4-for-4 from three-point range, and Vos chipped in 12 points each. Graduate Ryan Broeckel (Chilton, Wis.) tallied eight points, six rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. WLC shot 48.3 percent (32-for-73) for the game, including 35.5 percent (11-for-31) from three-point range. 

Logan Landers scored 16 points for Concordia Wisconsin (0-4, 0-1 NACC), which shot 42.9 percent (24-for-56) from the floor.
