Prairie Wolves Dominate the Paint in Home-Opening Win Over Colorado College

LINCOLN, Neb. (November 24, 2024) – Nebraska Wesleyan opened its 2024-25 home campaign with a commanding 79-68 victory over Colorado College at Snyder Arena. The Prairie Wolves capitalized on strong shooting and a balanced team effort to secure the win.


HOW IT HAPPENED

Nebraska Wesleyan lit up Snyder Arena in their home opener, defeating Colorado College 79-68 behind an efficient offensive display and relentless effort on the boards. The Prairie Wolves seized control early, using a 9-0 run midway through the first half to build a double-digit lead they would never give up.

Carter Glenn set the tone from the opening tip, attacking the basket and keeping the Tigers' defense on its heels. Glenn finished with 16 points, four assists, and two rebounds, showcasing his ability to both score and distribute.

In the paint, Seth Newton and Jack Groeteke were a dominant duo, combining for 20 points and eight rebounds. Newton's high-energy performance included a crowd-pleasing block, while Groeteke displayed his versatility with a mix of inside scoring and mid-range jumpers.

The Prairie Wolves bench provided a huge lift, led by Amun-Ra Collins, who scored 13 points all in the first half on 4-of-5 shooting, including a huge three-pointer as time expired to send the Prairie Wolves to the locker room up 44-31. Collins' first half performance energized the home crowd and swung momentum firmly in NWU's favor.

While Colorado College clawed back to within nine points with just under seven minutes to play, Nebraska Wesleyan's defense tightened, forcing turnovers and securing key rebounds. Carter Glenn put the game away for the Prairie Wolves as a late steal and assist from Conner Brown to Glenn put NWU up 12 with 1:18 left. Glenn then iced the game with a pair of free throws.

  • Field Goal Shooting: The Prairie Wolves shot an efficient 51.7% from the field, compared to just 37.5% by the Tigers.
  • Bench Production: NWU's bench outscored Colorado College's reserves 25-2, led by Collins' 13 points.
