The University of Rochester Yellowjackets used their stellar 3-point shooting to defeat the Nazareth University Golden Flyers by a score of 79-61 on day two of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout hosted at the Louis Alexander Palestra.
Logan Jagodzinski was named the tournament MVP, and he was joined on the All-Tournament team by fellow Yellowjacket Corvin Oprea. Jaylen Savage and Luke Insley were named to the All-Tournament team from Nazareth.
Saturday's game served as a de-facto championship game in the classic format tournament, with Rochester and Nazareth both earning wins during the opening round of play on Thursday evening.
Rochester kicked things off with a made 3-pointer from Ethan McEachern giving UR a four-point lead after two minutes.
Camden Fleming and Bennett Kwiecinski joined McEachern with three-point shots of their own to push the Yellowjacket lead to four just under the 14-minute mark.
Rochester finished the first half strong, going on a 19-8 run over the final five minutes going five-for-five from distance and seven-for-eight from the field overall. Jagodzinski and Kwiecinski led UR in the stretch with six and five points, respectively.
At the half UR was shooting an exceptional 61.5% from behind the three-point arc and just under 50% from the field, along with outrebounding the Golden Flyers by a 21-16 margin.
The second half had the momentum switch to Nazareth, as the Golden Flyers started on a 10-2 run. The 'Jackets were able to shoot their way out of it with a pair of buckets from Jagodzinski.
UR held the double-digit lead for much of the remainder of the game, and Rochester was able to close out the game at the free throw line, knocking down 13-of-14 free-throws in the final four minutes.
As a team, Rochester hit the boards hard pulling down 41 rebounds compared to Nazareth's 29.
Jagodzinski led the way for Rochester scoring 19 points while grabbing eight rebounds and going 3-of-4 from behind the arc.
Oprea was named to the All-Tournament team behind his 12-point performance and six rebounds while shooting 7-for-8 from the free throw line. Kwiecinski was a force in the middle with 10 points and eight rebounds while knocking down two threes.
With the victory, Rochester moves to 5-1 on the season, while Nazareth falls to 2-2.
UR will continue the 2024-25 season with a road non-conference matchup with Hobart on November 26 at 8 pm.
