Ohio Northern tips off 6-game road swing with 90-68 victory over Kenyon

GAMBIER — The Ohio Northern men's basketball team started a 6-game road trip with a 90-68 victory at Kenyon on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

  • Records: Ohio Northern (3-1 Overall), Kenyon (0-3 Overall).

The Game

  • Junior Will Miller (Ottoville) led the Polar Bears in scoring with 21 points. 
  • Sophomore Jadi Cunningham (Columbus/Westerville South) had a double-double with 18 points and 11 assists and also grabbed 6 boards.
  • Senior Blake Michael (Freemont/St. Joesph Central Catholic) added 14 points and grabbed 2 rebounds.
  • Sophomore Theo Maag (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) added 8 points, and brought in 3 rebounds.
  • Jackson Maloney led Kenyon with 13 points.
  • Northern started the game on a 12-2 run and would not trail in the contest.
  • Kenyon would cut the lead to 26-20 with 8:54 left in the half, but Northern would go on a 17-9 run to end the half, extending the lead to 43-29 at intermission.
  • The Owls started the second half on a 15-6 run to get with 49-44 with 4:52 gone, but Northern would respond with 7 unanswered points in 2:10 to extend the lead back to 56-44 with 12:58 remaining.
  • The Polar Bears would go on a 7-1 run to push the lead to 81-60 with 3:40 left and would not look back from there. 
  • Ohio Northern was 32-of-57 from the floor for 56.1 percent and made 11-21 three-pointers for 52.4 percent, while Kenyon finished 20-of-43 from the field for 46.5 percent and 4-of-16 from three-point range for 25 percent.
  • ONU made 15-of-20 free throws for 75 percent and KC was 24-of-30 from the foul line for 80 percent.
  • The Owls out-rebounded the Polar Bears 27-26.
