Wisconsin Lutheran Fails To Trail In Passing Season's First Road Test

WHEATON, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Five players scored in double figures and 15th-ranked Wisconsin Lutheran College collected an 81-66 wire-to-wire non-conference road win over Wheaton on Saturday at King Arena.

The Warriors (3-0), who matched up with the Thunder for the first time in program history, surged out to an 8-0 lead just over a minute into action behind three-pointers from graduate Jacob Hefle (Germantown, Wis.) and senior AJ Vos (Lombard, Ill.). WC was forced to call its second timeout within the opening six minutes after WLC pushed its lead to 16-4.

Wheaton later came within six points on three separate occasions, but Wisconsin Lutheran held a double-digit advantage for the final nine-and-a-half minutes of the first half. Junior Ja'Quell Chisom (Milwaukee, Wis.) extended the Warriors' advantage to a first half-high 20 points with a minute remaining, before WLC went into the locker room with a 47-29 lead.

A 10-0 scoring run by Wisconsin Lutheran just over six minutes into the second half sent the lead to a game-high 23 points at 61-38. The Warriors matched the game-high 23-point lead three more times in the second half, including 71-48 after a Chisom layup with 9:42 left.

WLC's lead stood at 20 points with five-and-a-half minutes left, and the Thunder came no closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

Graduates Grayson Goetz (Aurora, Ill.) and Ryan Broeckel (Chilton, Wis.) scored 16 points each for Wisconsin Lutheran. Chisom and graduate Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.) tallied 13 points apiece, while Hefle chipped in 10. Broeckel and Vos grabbed six rebounds each, Goetz dished out five assists, and Hefle had four steals. The Warriors shot 55.8 percent (29-for-52) from the floor for the game.

Soren Richardson scored a game-high 22 points to pace WC (1-2), which shot 56.3 percent (27-for-48) from the floor.
