Scots Fall in Ohio

Mary Washington Gets Better of Maryville for Second Straight Year

MARIETTA, Ohio – Zack Blue scored 28 points on the strength of 8-of-10 shooting from 3-point distance to lead Mary Washington to an 84-58 decision over Maryville at the Marietta Shrine Tournament.

This marks the second year that Mary Washington has knocked off Maryville in an early season tournament. Last season, the Eagles prevailed in overtime at the Emory Holiday Classic in Atlanta.

Blue scored 20 of his 28 in the first half, going 6-of-7 from downtown as Mary Washington built a 44-27 advantage.

The Scots were within 20-17 at the midway point of the opening half after Jaylon Green's steal and fast break layup. But the Virginians closed the half on a 24-10 run and then built on their 17-point lead throughout the second half.

Chase Morgan was Maryville's lone double-figure scorer with 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting. He just missed his first double-double of the 2024-25 campaign with a season-high nine rebounds. Reed Kemp and Jackson Garner scored seven points apiece, while Javi Rosell was the team's assist leader with four.

The Scots finished with a slight edge in second-chance points at 18-15.

Maryville (1-2) now faces Wisconsin-Eau Claire (1-2) in Saturday's consolation round at 5 p.m. It is believed to be the first meeting in men's basketball between the two programs.
