Antinori Ties Career High with 13 as #7 RMC Falls at #23 H-SC

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va.  Junior Keishawn Pulley Jr. (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) scored 15 points and sophomore Theo Antinori (Asheville, N.C./Rabun Gap) matched his career best with 13 points as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team dropped an 84-77 decision at Hampden-Sydney in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening.

How it Happened:

  • The Yellow Jackets won the tap and junior Liam Joyce (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) made a one-hander from the baseline to give the visitors the first bucket of the game. The Tigers scored seven of the next nine points before a layup by Pulley halted the run. That basket sparked a 6-2 spurt that put RMC back on top 10-9 five minutes into the contest. Sophomore Malcolm Hodges (Richmond, Va./Monacan) had three straight buckets in the paint as part of a 6-3 run as the Yellow Jackets went up 16-14 with 11:35 left in the first half. The Tigers scored eight straight points before Antinori had a pair of treys in a 9-4 spurt as RMC pulled within one at 26-25 with 5:20 remaining. H-SC finished the half on a 15-10 run and took a 41-35 lead at the break.
  • The Tigers had the first two baskets of the second half to take their largest lead at 45-35 before a three-pointer by Pulley capped a 10-2 run as the Yellow Jackets narrowed the deficit to two at 47-45 three minutes into the second period. RMC trailed by four with 11 minutes remaining before H-SC put together an 11-1 run to go up 69-55 with 7:40 left. A triple and a jumper by junior Jabril Robinson (Rockville, Md./South Kent Prep) cut it to 69-60. The Tigers led 75-62 before a trey by Antinori and four points by sophomore Joe Bachman (Wilmington, N.C./Greensboro Day) cut it to 75-69 with 3:30 remaining. H-SC would hold on for the 84-77 win.

  • Bachman came off the bench to score a career-high 10 points.
  • Freshman Delani Hammonds (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell) had eight first-half points, the first points of his collegiate career.
