GREENSBURG, Pa. (November 12) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team dropped a competitive matchup 83-68, at Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday evening.

The Jackets fall to 0-2 on the season while UPG rises to 2-0.

A layup by Antone Baker (Maple Heights, Ohio / Maple Heights) gave Waynesburg a 60-59 lead with nine minutes left in regulation. UPG's Matthew Marinchak proceeded to knock down three three-pointers and another jumper to put the Bobcats ahead 72-64 with five minutes to play. Waynesburg narrowed the margin to 72-68 with four minutes to go after a pair of layups by PJ Suggs (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) and Korey Mitchum (McHenry, Md. / Southern Garrett (Md.)). 

UPG answered with three-pointers on back-to-back trips down the floor by Ty Keffer, who had not yet scored before the late clutch baskets. UPG shot seven-of-nine from deep in the second half to secure the 83-68 victory.

The Bobcats established an 11-2 lead in the game's opening minutes. Waynesburg used a 17-2 run that featured three three-pointers by Scott Bilovus (Imperial, Pa. / West Allegheny) and five points by Suggs to take a 23-18 lead with 8:45 left in the first half. The two teams went back-and-forth the rest of the period as the score was tied at 25, 27 and 31 before the Jackets took a 41-38 edge into halftime.

Waynesburg grew its lead to as many as seven (49-42) in the first three-plus minutes of the second half. The two teams traded the lead five times around the midpoint of the second half before Marinchak's flurry gave the Bobcats the lead for good.

Suggs led Waynesburg with 19 points and four assists. Baker had 13 points and six rebounds. Bilovus made three three-pointers on his way to 13 points and four rebounds. Rayshod Hooper (Baltimore, Md. / St. Frances) finished with six points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Waynesburg had a 40-38 edge in rebounding while UPG won the turnover margin 12-11. 

The Jackets welcome Oberlin in their home opener on Saturday at 2 p.m.
