MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny men's basketball team collected a 74-62 senior day Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory against Franciscan Saturday (Feb. 10).
Before the contest, the Gators honored their five seniors: Trey Williams (Hudson, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), Preston Turk (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock), Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park), Holden Phillips (Broadlands, Va./Briar Wood) and Mike Noonan (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe).
The Barons gained the early advantage, 12-6, before the Gators went on a big run. Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) capped off a 9-0 run with a three pointer as the Gators moved ahead, 15-12. Franciscan brought the game within a point, 21-20, before Allegheny once again answered with a 9-0 run. Wilder had six points in that stretch while James Sitter (Erie, Pa./Fairview) added a three. Allegheny maintained their advantage the rest of the half as they led 36-26 going into the locker room.
Wilder led Alegheny with eight points and five rebounds while Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) and Isaiah Portis (Medina, Ohio/Norwayne) had six points and five rebounds apiece. The Gators had a 28-15 advantage on the glass.
The start of the second half saw the Gators push their lead up to 17, 45-28, following a 9-2 opening run. The lead grew to as much as 18 before a Barons' run of 8-0 cut the lead back down to 10. Allegheny would go on to outpace Franciscan by a 10-4 margin over the next four minutes to reestablish a 62-46 lead.
Down the stretch, the Gators were able to maintain their advantage as they picked up the PAC senior day win.
Inside the Box
- Wilder led the team with 14 points and eight rebounds.
- Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)) tallied 12 points with seven rebounds and three assists.
- Turk also finished in double digits on senior day with 11 points to go alongside six rebounds.
- Portis was the fourth Gator in double figures, producing 10 points, six rebounds and two assists.
- Lang notched eight points and five rebounds while Jayson Perry (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) scored six with four rebounds and three assists.
- Phillips had four points and three rebounds while Noonan had two points and three rebounds.
- Zion Barksdale (Meadville, Pa./Cathedral Prep) blocked a pair of shots.
- Allegheny owned a 46-38 rebounding advantage.
