Six in Double Figures Secures Griffins AEC Win over Pacers in Season Finale

Scranton, Pa. - (2/14/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (16-9, 9-3) concluded their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) and regular season schedules with tonight's 91-74 victory at 
Marywood University (12-12, 6-5). There, a united Red and Gold effort - six Griffins in double figures - produced a 54-point second half that left the Pacers struggling to keep up. Senior guard Aziz Parker (Westampton, N.J.) was the leading scorer and did so efficiently with 14 points on 4-of-6 (.667) shooting and a perfect 4-of-4 (1.000) performance at the free throw line.

Griffin Highlights

  • Gwynedd Mercy University paced Marywood University for a majority of the first half and led by as many as six points, 26-20 (7:32), before holding a three-point advantage, 37-34 (0:41), at halftime.
  • After intermission, a 22-16 rebounding edge and the Griffins' impressive 17-of-19 (.895) free throw performance helped the Red and Gold separate themselves for a the eventual 17-point victory. 
  • Parker supported his scoring with five rebounds and three assists; he was joined in double figures by junior guard Aquil Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa.) (13 points), junior guard Mike Marable (Philadelphia, Pa.) (12), senior guard JoHaan Vinson (Philadelphia, Pa.) (12), freshman guard Mazen Sayed (Chichester, Pa.) (11), and graduate guard Manny Clark (Pottsgrove, Pa.) (10).
  • Marable contributed across the stat sheet with seven rebounds, five assists, a block, and a steal on top of his dozen points. Meanwhile, Vinson was equally valuable with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals in excess of his.
  • Sophomore guard Jalen Snead (Philadelphia, Pa.) totaled a team-high six assists while recording four points, a rebound, a block, and two steals. 

Gwynedd Mercy University awaits the outcomes of this weekend's AEC competition for seeding in the league's upcoming championship tournament. The Griffins finish the 2023-2024 regular season with a 16-9 overall record and a 9-3 conference standing.
