Vikings Defeat Rhodes in SAA Play

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Berry Men's Basketball (12-9 overall, 9-1 SAA) hangs on to their first place SAA position in Friday night's road matchup at Rhodes College (8-13 overall, 2-8 SAA) with a big win of 76-65.

The Vikings remain hot behind Blake Campbell's 25 points, their win streak goes to nine.

Tonight, Berry still sang their normal tune with a close first half, and then amping it up with a 20-point margin to take the win.

Leading scorer Blake Campbell's free throw started the night with a Berry lead. Both teams struggled in the first ten minutes with a 15-13 score backed behind Campbell's nine.

Chase Ellis returned to action and quickly got back into the groove with a three.

Every time the Vikings began to pull away, the Lynx were ready to pounce and answer back. However, after building the lead to six after a three, the team pushed it to eight. Rhodes was able to get the final bucket and the score at half was 34-28.

Throughout the first half, the Vikings were 5-10 for the long ball, a tough percentage to maintain, but they did just that in the second half to finally secure their separation efforts.

A 9-0 run in the opening two and half minutes of the second half doomed the home team. Campbell continued to build on his scoring and the Vikings got hot from behind the arc (43-28).

Rhodes attempted a run of their own but freshman, Drew Winegarden shut it down with a triple and after one more Lynx bucket the Vikings took off.

The 17-4 run changed the momentum of the game, Jacob Morgan and Jordan Krueger nailed two threes in the big run and took a twenty point advantage at 63-41.

Berry held off the Lynx despite their late run, there was not enough time for Rhodes to take down the #1 Vikings.

Catch Berry back in action on Sunday at Hendrix, game time set for 3:00 PM ET.
