MBB: WestConn uses strong start to pull past Panthers

 

PLYMOUTH, N.H. The Plymouth State University men's basketball team fell to the Western Connecticut State University Wolves, 71-45, in a Little East Conference (LEC) contest at Foley Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

WestConn, one of the top ranked teams in the LEC, opened a first half lead that was too big to come back from. The Panthers put forth a solid second half, but the Wolves deemed to be too strong in the end. Senior Kyler Bosse (Manchester, N.H.) led the Panthers with 13 points, while classmate Christian Barr (Henniker, N.H.) tallied nine points in the losing effort.

Plymouth State dips to 5-13 (1-8 LEC), while WestConn improves to 14-4 (7-2 LEC).

How it Happened:

  • Play opened with the Wolves ahead 9-6 with 16:54 remaining in the first half.
  • WestConn recorded the next 12 points to increase the margin to 21-6 midway through the opening frame.
  • Plymouth State was able to cut the margin back to single digits (21-12) with 8:11 on the clock.
  • The Wolves started to pull away, closing out the first by taking a 42-22 lead into the locker room.
  • PSU jumped on a 13-4 run midway through the second half, but still found themselves down 54-37 as the team attempted to cut into the deficit.
  • WestConn resumed control of the game as the team cruised to a comfortable victory.

By the Numbers:

  • WestConn outrebounded the Panthers, 46-41, including 17-12 on the offensive glass.
  • Bench points were in the Wolves' favor, 32-21.
  • The Panthers recorded 24 of their points in the paint.
