Redlands Men's Basketball makes 27 threes in dominant win over Caltech

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's basketball team (11-5, 3-4) beat the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) 114-61 behind 27 made threes on Wednesday evening inside Currier Gym.

Sam Abere started the game off with two threes both coming off Jhace Boston assists as the Bulldogs started the game on a 14-0 run and held the Beavers scoreless for the first five plus minutes. Robert Power added a three and a fastbreak layup and Pharaoh Amadi hit his first of many threes during the run.

At the 9:46 mark Redlands finished a 10-0 run and led by 30, 36-6. Those final 10 points came from Neil Owens and Josh Himel both started the run with threes thanks to Abere assists and Owens and Amadi had the final four points.

The largest lead of the half came with 5:38 remaining after Ivan Belkin found Himel for a three pointer to take a 33-point lead, 48-15.

The Beavers would right the ship more over the last five minutes as the Bulldogs would take a 58-32 lead into the break.

After Caltech scored three of the first four points to begin the second 20-minute half, Owens made a jumper on a fast break and then Power, Amadi, Malachi Miller all converted behind the arc to extend the lead to 34, 71-37.

In the second half overall Amadi made six-of-eight threes as he scored 18 points in a career night.

Amadi led five players with double figures with a career-high 27 points (9-15 FG, 8-14 3FG, 1-1 FT) while adding six rebounds and two assists. The other four players with double-digits were Himel and Owens with 15 points, Abere with 12, and Power with 11.

As a team the Bulldogs had great ball movement with 31 assists on 39 made field goals. The 31 assists tie for the 15th most in a single game in the country this season. Boston led the way with a career-high six assists.

Redlands also made 27 threes which are the seconds most in a single game behind the 40 that Grinnell College made last Friday.

The Bulldogs will head to the University of La Verne this Saturday for an afternoon game that tips off at 2:00 p.m.
