Johns Hopkins Rolls to 98-61 win over Haverford

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's basketball team had five players score in double figures as the Blue Jays beat the visiting Haverford Fords, 98-61, Saturday afternoon. JHU pushed its win streak to eight as it improves to 10-4 overall and 7-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Fords fall to 4-11 and 1-7 in the conference.
 
After falling behind 19-8 with 12:19 to play in the first half, Hopkins outscored Haverford, 65-19, over the next 23 minutes to put the game away.
 
The Fords jumped on the Blue Jays early, going 8-of-11 from the field in the game's opening eight minutes. Nick Klaiber and Gabriel Franklin combined for 14 of the 19 points in the early going. Freshman Jeb Williams then sparked a 16-1 run with a three-pointer at the 11:55-mark. Seven different players scored during the run, which was capped by a Brian Johansson transition three to put the Blue Jays up 24-20 with 7:02 to go in the half.
 
Logan Brown sliced the lead in half with a pair of free throws, but another three from Johansson ignited another Blue Jay run. Hopkins would close the half on a 16-7 run and take a 40-29 lead into the break. Again, JHU spread the ball around as five players combined for the 16 points during the run.
 
Graduate student Carson James opened the second with a three-pointer to push the lead to 14. Haverford answered with five straight points to cut the deficit to nine with 17:19 to play. It was all Blue Jays over the ensuing seven minutes and 25 seconds as Hopkins went on a 30-4 run and pushed out to a 73-38 lead. During the run, the Blue Jays forced the Fords into just 1-of-8 shooting from the field and five turnovers. On the flip side, Hopkins made 11 of 16 shots from the field, including five three-pointers.
 
The pace slowed a little over the ensuing five minutes as Haverford cut the deficit from 35 to 23. Hopkins had the final say however, closing the game on a 17-3 spurt to take the 98-61 win.
 
James led all scorers with 21 points, going 7-of-10 from the field and an impressive 6-of-8 from downtown. Freshman Isaiah Hanson scored a career-high 12 points on a 4-of-5 performance from the floor. Johansson, Williams and senior Will Sykes scored 10 points each. Freshman Brayden Fagbemi finished with a game0high five assists to go with nine points and three steals. Graduate student Sidney Thybulle had a game-high eight rebounds to go with four points, two steals and a block. Franklin led the Fords with 16 points while Klaiber finished with 12 points.
 
Hopkins is back in action on Wednesday, January 17 as the Blue Jays host the Washington College Shoremen. Tip-off at Goldfarb Gym is slated for 8:00 pm.
 
Notes: James pushed his career point total to 974 points and is now just 26 shy of the 1,000-point mark • The Blue Jays' 98 points are the most in a game since a 99-90 win at Ursinus on January 15, 2022.
