Men's Basketball keeps York at bay, 72-65

YORK, Pa. – The Stevenson University men's basketball team evened its record at 7-7, and more importantly, got its first MAC Commonwealth win of the season on Wednesday night as the Mustangs defeated York (Pa.) 72-65 on the road.
 
Rasheed Cooley had 21 points on 6-for-9 shooting and made all eight of his foul shot attempts. As a team, the Mustangs were 13-for-17 from the charity stripe on the evening and limited York (7-7, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth) to just ten attempts.
 
Cameron Smith netted 14 points and Ronald Ayers had 11, while Joey Lutz scored ten off the bench in the win. Stevenson had just ten turnovers on the night, with Cooley having three steals and Smith getting two.
 
An Ayers jumper with 15:26 left in the first half gave the Mustangs the lead for good at 9-8, a lead that would grow to as much as 12 (27-15) with 6:44 left on a three-pointer by Ayers.
 
The Spartans would claw their way back in, tying the score at 28-all with 1:39 left in the first half on a layup by James Iannelli.
 
Deadlocked at 30 at halftime, Stevenson scored the first five points of the second half to go up 35-30 and held York at bay throughout the second half.
 
Leading 63-60 with 3:08 left, Stevenson outscored York 7-2 over the next 2:51 to put the game away.
 
The Mustangs continue their road odyssey on Saturday, heading to Albright.
