CASTLETON, Vt. The Plymouth State University men's basketball team defeated the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans, 62-57, in a Little East Conference (LEC) matchup at Glenbrook Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

Graduate student Giorgi Tsiklauri (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded his third career double-double, scoring 15 points while bringing down 16 rebounds. Senior Kyler Bosse (Manchester, N.H.) scored a game-high 29 points, while freshman Jayden Montgomery (Nashua, N.H.) tallied nine points in the winning effort for the Panthers.

The Panthers have won nine straight meetings against the Spartans.

Plymouth State improves to 5-9 (1-4 LEC), while VTSU Castleton goes to 4-10 (0-5 LEC).

How it Happened:

  • VTSU Castleton opened play on a 9-0 run in the opening two minutes of the first half.
  • The Spartans extended the advantage to 13 points (29-16) with 7:46 to play until halftime.
  • The Panthers closed out the first half strong, behind a 10-3 run to close the gap to 32-26.
  • Plymouth State continued to cut into the deficit to start the second half, until back-to-back three-pointers at the 12:55 mark put the Panthers ahead for the first time in the game (42-40).
  • The Panthers continued their 17-3 run to extend the margin to nine points (50-41) with 8:15 left on the clock.
  • VTSU Castleton was able to get to within five points with 1:04 left in the contest, but the Panthers kept their opponent at arm's length as the team closed out its first conference win of the season.

  • Plymouth State shot 25-of-61 (41.0%) from the floor, and 9-of-24 (37.5%) from three.
  • The Panthers outrebounded VTSU Castleton, 39-36, with a 12-9 advantage on the offensive glass.
