Big Second Half Sends Wolves Past Griffins, Thomas Leads Five in Double Figures

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (12/9/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (3-5) held a 43-40 halftime lead on Alvernia University (4-2) in this afternoon's engagement at the Griffin Complex. Unfortunately, the Golden Wolves overwhelmed the Griffins with a 60-point second half that ended the affair on a 100-87 final. Five members of the Red and Gold scored in double figures, including junior forward Dom Thomas (Mullica Hill, N.J.) who scored a season-high 18 points while gathering three rebounds, handing out two assists, and captaining the Griffins' defensive efforts with a steal.

Griffin Highlights

  • Gwynedd Mercy University controlled most of the opening period and maxed out their lead at 12 points, 26-14 (10:16), on a three-point basket from sophomore guard Devin Benson (Williamstown, N.J.).
  • Senior guard JoHaan Vinson (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore guard D.J. Johnson (Norristown, N.J.) put in the effort to keep the Griffins in the lead for the duration of the first half. The former recorded 11 points, four rebounds, an assist, and a steal, while the latter totaled nine rebounds, four rebounds, an assist, and a block.
  • Vinson (17 points) and Johnson (11) joined Thomas for double-digit performances along with sophomore guard Aquil Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa.) (10) and senior guard Aziz Parker (Westampton, N.J.) (15). Stewart added four rebounds and an assist to his 10 points, while Parker also recorded four rebounds and two assits.
  • In addition to his 17 points, Vinson recorded eight rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
  • Johnson provided five rebounds, two assists, and a blocks in excess of his 11 points.
  • Graduate guard Manny Clark (Pottsgrove, Pa.) was a factor as well with six points, two rebounds, and a team-high six assists.
