#3 Guilford Tops Roanoke on the Road

The third-rank Guilford College men's basketball team faced Roanoke College in a road Old Dominion Athletic Conference showdown. The Quakers grasped an early lead and did not let it go as it won, 65-53.

Roanoke (3-4, 0-3) jumped out of the gate with a three-point play. Guilford (7-0, 1-0) quickly tied the contest as Tyler Dearman hit a stepback three. The shot sparked a 10-4 run as the Quakers jumped ahead 13-7 with 14:07 on the clock.

The Maroons pulled within two (19-17) but GC went on a 15-2 run over the next 4:27 to lead 34-19. During the run, Dearman scored seven points as the team was 4-4 from the charity stripe. 

Over the final three-plus minutes, the two squads were fairly even except Roanoke outscored Guilford 9-6. As both teams headed for their respective locker rooms, the Quakers led 40-28.

In the second half, both teams traded baskets as GC expanded its lead to 17 (59-42) with 6:15 left in regulation. Roanoke went on a 9-0 run to cut the difference to just eight (59-51) with over a minute left in the half.

Down the stretch, the Quakers held the Maroons to just two points while Luke Proctor made all four free throw attempts with a dunk by Caleb Farrish thrown in the middle of them. Guilford secured the 12-point road victory.

Dearman paced both teams with 22 points while Luke Proctor added 15 points. On the glass, the Quakers won the rebounding margin by six (38-32) with 12 for Julius Burch.

Guilford continues its four-game road stretch on Friday, December 8 against Mary Washington. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
