Redlands Men's Basketball drop their SCIAC opener to California Lutheran

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's basketball team (4-2, 1-0) lost their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener to California Lutheran University (CLU) 74-65 on Saturday afternoon inside Currier Gym.

The game was tied at two, eight, and 11 in the first four minutes. Kendrick Currey had five points and Khyree Armstead, Robert Power, and Cameron Brown each chipped in two.

A layup in the paint by Pharaoh Amadi and a made free throw by Brown made it a four-point lead, 15-11, with 14:52 remaining in the half.

After the multi-possession lead, the Kingsmen went on a 15-4 run as they took their largest lead of the game at seven, 26-19, with 7:10 on the clock. The Bulldogs, though, were able to regain the momentum and lead by as many as four, 36-32, and were up by two at the half.

It was a back-and-forth start to the second half as each team held multiple lead and the Bulldogs found themselves up six, 62-56, with less than nine minutes to play. That lead, however, was lost with 3:21 on the clock as a Kingsmen three gave them the 65-63 lead, a lead they would maintain the rest of the game as they beat the Bulldogs by nine.

Currey finished with his first double-double of his Bulldog career as he led the team with 17 points (6-24 FG, 4-6 FT) and 10 rebounds while adding five assists. Cameron Brown was the lone other player in double figures with 13 points (2-4 FG, 9-10 FT).

The Bulldogs will now prepare for a pair of road trips, the first to Thousand Oaks where they play Kalamazoo College on Monday, December 18 at 7:00 p.m.
