Men’s Basketball Falls on The Road Against No. 6 Oswego St.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State men's basketball team endured a 101-72 loss to No. 6 Oswego St. in a State University of New York (SUNYAC) matchup. Trailing by double digits at the half, the Cardinals fell behind as Oswego shot 60.0% from the floor and 41.1% from the three in the first half. The offensive effort for the Cardinals was led by Jeremiah Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y. / East New York Family Academy) who had 17 points that tied as the game-high, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. 
 
Other scorers for the Cardinals included Franklin Infante (East Rockaway, N.Y. / East Rockaway) and Kevin Tabb (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Thomas Jefferson) who both had 12 points each. Infante added seven rebounds which led the Cardinals and Tabb five to go along with his team-leading five steals and four assists. Sasha Vidrini (Trieste, Italy / Liceo Rogazionisti) and Ankush Malhotra (Long Island, N.Y. / Upper Room Christian School) added to the overall effort with six points and one steal each. 
 
For the Lakers, Jeremiah Sparks and Kenny Lazo led the way with 17 points each. Ankee Anderson and Steven Bradley both added 10 points each.  
 
Plattsburgh shot an efficient 42.6% from the floor while Oswego shot an impressive 55.9% from the floor and 43.3% from the three which allowed them to build their halftime lead. Plattsburgh only had 10 giveaways all game but lost the rebounding battle 45-32. 
 
Plattsburgh falls to 2-5 (0-2 SUNYAC) and will be back in action as they start a two-game home stand first with a matchup against Middlebury on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 pm. No. 6 Oswego St. rises to 7-0 (2-0 SUNYAC) and will be back in action in the D3Hoops Classic with a matchup against Case Western Reserve University on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 11 pm. 
 
The first half saw excellent shooting from the Lakers as they shot 60.0% from the field and 41.1% from the three with seven made three-pointers. Sparks opened the first half with a three and Infante made two free throws that got the Cardinals on the board. Infante made a layup that tied the game at 4 but shortly after the Lakers scored five straight points until Tabb made a three with 17 minutes to go. The Cardinals scored six straight points as Infante and Dylan Trombley(Moriah, N.Y. / Moriah) both made jumpers and Smith a layup that made the score 15-13 Lakers. With less than 14 minutes to play both teams exchanged buckets as Jamal Achille and Smith both made layups. Vidrini made a free throw that tied the game at 17 with a little over 12 minutes to play. Lazo made a three that gave the Lakers back the lead as they went on a 14-0 run that ended after an Anderson Jr. layup that made the score 31-19 Lakers. The rest of the half saw the Lakers outscore the Cardinals 24-11 which made the score 55-30 at halftime. 
 
The second half was more of the same as Oswego continued their hot shooting night as they shot 51.5% from the field and 46.2% from the three in the half. Tim Thomas (Manhattan, N.Y. / Commonwealth Academy (Mass.)) opened the scoring in the second half with a three followed by an Achille layup that made the score 57-33 Lakers. With less than 17 minutes to play both teams traded buckets as Smith made a layup and Kaleb Cook a jump shot followed by a Trombley layup that made the score 61-37 Lakers. With a little over 13 minutes to play the Cardinals scored four straight points followed by a Lazo three. Shortly after that, both teams exchanged buckets as Orlando Dawkins (Mount Vernon, N.Y. / Mount Vernon) made a layup, Elijah Hardison a layup, and Vidrini a three that made the score 74-48 Lakers with a little over 11 minutes to play. It was Vidrini again as he made a layup followed by a Smith layup. With less than seven minutes to play Ikechukwu Ezike (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Paul Robeson) made a dunk that made the score 82-57 Lakers. The rest of the game saw the Lakers only outscore the Cardinals 19-15, but their impressive shooting night was too much for the Cardinals as they couldn't mount a comeback and lost 101-72.
