Hornets Charge Past Chargers for Fourth Straight Win

LANCASTER, Pa. – In their last game before the Thanksgiving break, the Shenandoah Hornets traveled to Lancaster, Pa for a non-conference matchup with Lancaster Bible College on a cold and rainy, Tuesday evening.  The Hornets came away with the 84-71 win to start the season 4-0 for the first time since the 2002-03 season.  Besides the best start in nearly two decades, Jaylen Williams recorded his 1,000th point in a Hornets uniform to become the 20th player to do so.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a nice move down low by Nic Pullum, but the Chargers would regain the lead 4-3 at the 16:52 mark of the 1st half.  LBC increased the lead to 7-3, until Evan Makle buried his first triple off an assist from Jaylen Williams to pull the Hornets to within one.  The remainder of the first half was fast and physical as both teams ran up and down the court trading baskets.  Nic Pullum's layup at 10:44 gave the advantage back to the Hornets and the Hornets would not look back for the final 10 minutes.  Evan Makle drilled another deep three, his second of the half, which ignited a 6-0 Hornets run.  Davion Roberts made a foul line jumper to increase the Hornets' lead to 28-20.  Back-to-back threes from Malik Jordan and Joshua Stephen pushed the lead to 34-22.  Evan Makle would score his game-high eighth point and the Hornets took a 10-point lead into the break.

In the second half, it was all Hornets as Shenandoah continued to pour in basket after basket and increased their lead to 29 points after a Binwi Bihai slam.  Shenandoah did a fantastic job keeping the high-powered offense of the Chargers at bay.  Lancaster Bible came into the game averaging 93.3 points per game, and the Hornets held them to under 60 points with 3:36 left on the clock.  Evan Makle and Jaylen Williams led all Hornets with 14 points each, Williams last two points solidifying his name in the record books.  The Chargers did not have an answer for either of the Hornets big men, as Nic Pullum had his first double-double of the season, and Binwi Bihai added six points and four rebounds in an efficient 16 minutes.

The Hornets will now take a couple of days off for the Thanksgiving holiday, before hitting the road on Sunday for a non-conference matchup with Gallaudet, as the Hornets will go for their fifth straight win to start the season.
