Men's Basketball fall to University of Vermont

Burlington, VT – The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team falls to the University of Vermont. Newcomer Dylan Trombley (Moriah, N.Y. / Moriah) gives the Cardinals 10 points, but they could not keep up with the high-scoring Catamounts. Franklin Infante (East Rockaway, N.Y. / East Rockaway) added eight points and three assists.
 
For the Catamounts they had four scorers in double digits. TJ Long led the way with 20 points, which led all scorers. Sam Alamutu contributed 13 points while lleri Ayo-Faleye and Michel Ndayishimiye both had 11 points.
 
Vermont shot the ball very well on their home court as they shot 61.0% from the field and 42.3% from the three. Plattsburgh had a bad shooting night on the road as they shot 29.1% from the field and 23.8% from the three.
 
Plattsburgh falls to 0-2 and Vermont rises to 2-0. Plattsburgh will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 18th at St. Lawrence University at 7:30 pm. Vermont will be back in action Thursday, Nov. 16th against the College of Charleston at 11:30 am.
 
The Catamounts opened the scoring in the first half on a backdoor cut layup by Matt Veretto, assisted by Aaron Deloney. The Cardinals get on the board after Willard Anderson Jr. (Buffalo, N.Y. / East) attacks the paint to draw the foul on a layup, making one of two free throws. Trombley followed that up with a layup assisted by Infante making the score 10-5 Catamounts. Both teams traded buckets with a three from Tim Thomas (Manhattan, N.Y. / Commonwealth Academy (Mass.) of the Cardinals and a layup from Sam Alamutu of the Catamounts.
 
The Catamounts went on a run to open the score 27-10 Catamounts with over 11 minutes to play in the first half. The Cardinals were held scoreless from the 12:02 minute mark until the 5:06 mark with a jumper from Trombley. In that time span, the Catamounts added 15 points from multiple players. With less than two minutes to play in the first half, the Cardinals added back-to-back buckets from Infante and Jeremiah Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y. / East New York Family Academy) to end the first half down 51-16.
 
Coming out of the locker room the Catamounts score first with a dunk from Shamir Bogues. The Cardinals responded shortly after with a layup from Infante to make the score 55-17 Catamounts. The teams traded buckets back and forth as Veretto scored a layup, Trombley responded with a three, Bogues with a dunk, and Thomas with a layup making the score 62-20 Catamounts. After that scoring exchange, the Catamounts went on a 10-2 run making the score 72-24 with under 13 minutes to play.
 
With five minutes left in the game, the Cardinals got buckets from Jeremiah Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y. / East New York Family Academy), Infante, and Darren Wright (Washington, D.C. / Bard) to close the game with a final score of 92-41 Catamount.
