Hood places trio on All-MAC Commonwealth Team

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Hood College's Garrison Linton (New Market, Md./Oakdale)Christopher Smalls (Washington, D.C./St. Andrew's Episcopal) and Trumaine Strickland (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) were named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Second Team in voting by the league coaches and announced by the MAC on Feb. 28. 

The Blazers are the only team in the MAC Commonwealth with three selections to the top two teams. It is also the first time in program history that Hood received three all-conference accolades in a season.

All three players earned their first career all-conference honors.

Linton led the conference in assists at 4.9 per game and rated second in assist/turnover ratio (1.9). He was sixth in the conference in field goal percentage (.477) and steals (1.5). The sophomore guard was Hood's leading rebounder (6.8) and scored 11 points per game. He scored 21 points in a win over Lebanon Valley on Feb. 1, which was also one of five games in which he grabbed 10 rebounds. 

Smalls finished eighth in the conference at 13 points per game. The graduate student was one of the best shooters in the conference, ranking seventh in field goal percentage (.460) and second from 3-point range (.432). He was second in the conference rankings in 3-point field goals per game (2.3) and 10th in steals per game (1.4). He had 22 points in an overtime win at Eastern on Jan. 28 and against York (Pa.) 10 days earlier. In between, he had a double-double against Albright on Jan. 21.

Strickland was one of the MAC Commonwealth's top scorers, ranking fourth at 15.6 points per game, all while playing just 21 minutes per game. The senior guard scored a career-high 26 in a win at Mary Washington and had two other games of 25 points. One of those was a 25-point, 12-rebound double-double against Eastern.   

The trio helped lead the Blazers to a 16-10 record, going 10-6 in the MAC Commonwealth. Hood earned the third seed in the conference tournament, falling it he semifinals.
