Manchester Men's Basketball Topped by Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Host Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology topped the Manchester Spartans 82-79 in men's basketball action on Wednesday, January 11. 

After a back-and-forth first half, the Fightin Engineers took a one-point lead at halftime. During the second half of play, Rose-Hulman saw their biggest lead of the night, eight points, with 5:21 left on the clock. The Spartans and Fightin' Engineers continued to battle back-and-forth, tying the score 79-79 with 1:18 left to play. Rose-Hulman would take the three-point lead with less than 30 seconds left on the clock. Despite the Spartans' hard-fought efforts, the Fightin' Engineers would hang on to win Wednesday night's game 82-79. 

Leading the way for the Fightin' Engineers was Max Chaplin with 23 points. Bradley Harden added 15 points while Miles McGowen and Terry Hicks chipped in 14 points apiece for Rose-Hulman. As a team, the Fightin' Engineers shot 44.8% from the field and 71.4% from the free throw line. With the win, Rose-Hulman improved to 8-6, 5-2 HCAC. 

Zach Sawyer (Columbus, Ohio, Bishop Watterson) led the Spartans with a new career-high 25 points during Wednesday's contest. Sophomore guard Quentez Columbus (South Bend, Ind., Adams) added 23 points and a team-high 7 assists. Ty Lynas (Crawfordsville, Ind., Crawfordsville) chipped in 10 points for the Black and Gold while Coy Hampton (Park Forest, Ill., Crete Monee) finished the night with a career-high 11 rebounds. As a team, Manchester shot 49.2% from the field, with 38 points in the paint. The Spartans also went a perfect 13-13 from the free throw line. The Spartans are now 6-8 overall and 4-3 in HCAC play. 

Up next, Manchester will travel to Hanover College to take on the Panthers in an HCAC double-header. The men will tip-off first against Hanover at 2:00 p.m. with the women to follow at 4:00 p.m.
