Lynas's Game Winning Jumper Puts Spartans Back in the Win Column

HANOVER, Ind. - The Manchester men's basketball team got back in the win column after sinking a late jump shot to defeat the Hanover Panthers 76-75 on Saturday, January 14. 

After trailing by as much as 14 points in the second half of Saturday's contest, the Spartans rallied to tie the score up 74-74 thanks to two made free throws by Quentez Columbus (South Bend, Ind., Adams) with 18 seconds left on the clock. A steal by Zach Sawyer (Columbus, Ohio, Bishop Watterson) led to a good fastbreak jump shot by Ty Lynas (Crawfordsville, Ind., Crawfordsville) which gave Manchester the 76-74 lead with just two seconds left to play. Hanover would get the chance to tie the game up, but Spartans would hang on to take the 76-75 victory. 

Three Spartans scored in double-digits during Saturday's contest. Sawyer led the Black and Gold with 21 points. Columbus, who shot 9-11 from the free throw line, added 17 points. Logan Willoughby (Greenwood, Ind., Whiteland Community) also finished the afternoon with 17 points while Coy Hampton (Park Forest, Ill., Crete Monee) tallied a team-high 11 rebounds on the day. As a team, Manchester shot 42.4% (28-66) from the field, with 38 total points scored in the paint, and 76.2% (16-21) from the free throw line. With the win, MU improved to 7-8 overall and 5-3 in conference play. 

Ty Houston led the Panthers with 27 points and 10 rebounds during Saturday's game. Max Greenamoyer added 17 points while Coleman Sater tallied 12 points on the afternoon for Hanover. As a team, the Panthers shot 45.6% from the field and 68.2% from the free throw line. Hanover fell to 8-7, 4-4 HCAC following Saturday's loss. 

The Manchester men's basketball team will travel to Bluffton University on Wednesday, January 18. The Spartans and Beavers will tip-off in Bluffton, Ohio at 7:30 p.m.
