The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team led from wire-to-wire in a 102-75 win over 24th-ranked Emory University on Sunday at Horsburgh Gymnasium, as the Spartans moved into a tie for first place in the University Athletic Association with three games left to play in the regular season.

The win was the sixth straight for the Spartans, giving the team its longest UAA winning streak in program history. CWRU improved to 18-3 overall and 8-3 in the UAA, tying the squad for first place in the conference with 16th-ranked Washington University (Mo.), who the Spartans will face in St. Louis on Friday night. The win also matches the program record for most UAA victories in a season and most regular season wins in a campaign for the Spartans.

Emory fell to 15-7 overall and to 6-5 in the UAA following the loss.

The Spartans finished the game shooting 52.9% from three-point range, hitting a season-high 18 threes on 34 attempts, tied for the second-most three-point shots made ever in a game by a CWRU team. The Spartans also broke the 100-point barrier for the second time in its last four UAA games, marking the first time in program history the squad had done so twice against in a UAA game in a single season. It was the sixth time overall that CWRU has scored 100 points in a UAA game and the first time the team has done it against Emory since 1996. It matched the second-highest single-game point total by the Spartans in a UAA game, just four away from the program record of 106 against Brandeis during the 1991-92 campaign.

Graduate student Mitch Prendergast led all players in the game with a season-high 29 points on Sunday. He hit 10-of-15 shots overall, including seven-of-12 from three, just one three-point shot made away from his own school single-game record. He added six rebounds, two assists, and a steal in the game. Prendergast finished his career averaging 26.0 points per game in his four contests against the Eagles.

Graduate student guard Danny Frauenheim added 23 points on nine-of-14 shooting overall, including three-of-six from long range, and dished out 10 assists for his second-straight double-double and third total this season. Sophomore forward Umar Rashid matched his career-high with 21 points off the bench, shooting seven-of-10 from the floor, and made a career-high six three-point shots on nine attempts.

Junior Luke Thorburn scored the first basket of the game on a second-chance attempt with 19:26 to play in the first half, and CWRU never looked back. The Spartans expanded their lead to as many as 11 points in the early going with three three-pointers by Prendergast over the first four minutes of the game pacing the squad to an 18-7 lead by the 16:27 mark. Emory cut the lead back to two points, 20-18, with 10:21 to play, but CWRU responded with a 12-2 run and took a 32-20 lead on a three by Rashid with 6:59 to play. The Spartans led by as many as 17 in the opening half and took a 50-35 lead into halftime.

The remainder of the game was never in doubt, as the Spartans led by at least 13 points the rest of the way and held at least a 20-point lead over the final 10 minutes. CWRU opened a 33-point advantage, its largest lead of the game, on a layup by senior guard Jason Lewis that set the score to 100-67, before the team closed out the 27-point win.

The Spartans outshot Emory 52.9% to 44.4% overall on Sunday.

Case Western Reserve will now turn its attention toward its final three games of the season each of which will be on the road. The Spartans control their own destiny for a conference title and could give themselves sole possession of first place by completing a season sweep of WashU next weekend. CWRU will face the Bears in St. Louis on Friday, February 17 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
