SALISBURY, Md. - Sophomore Ty Henderson scored 17 points Saturday afternoon to lead the third-ranked Captains of Christopher Newport University over Salisbury University, 85-73, at the Maggs Center. Henderson was one of five CNU players to reach double digits as the Captains won their sixth straight game, and improved to 21-3 on the season.

Fifth-year senior Matthew Brodie and junior Jahn Hines tallied 13 each, junior Trey Barber scored 12, and sophomore Caleb Furr added 11 as Christopher Newport won its second game of the year over the Sea Gulls, who fell to 11-13 with the defeat in front of just over 300 observers.

"We played well in stretches today, and made enough shots to win the game," Head Coach John Krikorian said. "Many of the shots that went down in the first half didn't go in the second half, but we were still getting good looks and playing good defense. I wasn't happy to see that we were out-rebounded, but that's their size advantage and we went with a smaller lineup for most of the game. Overall, it's always a great win to come here and walk away on top."

CNU trailed in the early minutes, but once the Captains grabbed a 7-6 lead they never fell behind again. Christopher Newport held a 16-point advantage at the intermission, 50-34, and went up by as many as 18 twice in the second stanza. Salisbury kept the game in reach and cut the lead as close as eight, 64-56, but could get no closer as CNU went on to the 12-point triumph.

Freshman Collin Hines, who made his first career start, led the Captains on the boards with nine rebounds. Hines also added six points, four assists, and a steal. The Captains were out-rebounded by the Sea Gulls, 40-35.

Salisbury was led by senior Brandon Craig, who scored 17 points after being honored on Senior Day. Junior Jordan Oates registered the game's only double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.

Christopher Newport knocked down 31-of-59 shots for the day (53 percent), and drained 10-of-25 three-pointers (40 percent). CNU's hot shooting also extended to the foul line, where the Captains made 13-of-18 free throw attempts (72 percent).

The Captains defeated Salisbury at the Freeman Center on January 28th by an almost identical score, 84-74. CNU has now won 13 straight games over the Sea Gulls, and 16 of the last 17.

The Captains conclude the regular season on Wednesday night at the Freeman Center, hosting the Eagles of the University of Mary Washington. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. and it will be Senior Night honoring four senior members of the CNU squad.

"It's going to be a special night, and the crowds have been amazing at home this year," Krikorian continued. "We'll be honoring four of our guys before the tip and I hope folks will come out and again show their support."
