William Paterson Men's Basketball Bested by Montclair State

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (9-11, 3-11 NJAC) dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) road game to Montclair State (18-3, 12-2 NJAC), 99-81, on Feb. 1.    

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Montclair State led by 11 (52-41) with 17:25 on the clock in the second half before a layup by junior Tyreek Montgomery sparked a 13-5 run for the Pioneers. On the run that brought William Paterson within three (57-54), the Pioneers shot 6-of-8 (.750) from the floor.
  • However, the Red Hawks responded with an 18-4 run to build what proved to be an insurmountable lead before securing the home conference win.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Junior Shawn Summers Jr. logged a team-high 18 points to go with nine rebounds, five assists and two steals.
  • Montgomery went 6-of-10 (.600) from the field and 3-of-5 (.600) from deep for 15 points.
  • Senior Michael Gilmore finished the night with 15 points on 6-of-11 (.545) shooting.  
  • Senior Cody Ripato tied his career-best scoring mark with 14 points after shooting 6-of-9 (.666) from the field.
  • Sophomore Neftali Valentin added eight points in the scoring column to pair with four steals.

  • The Pioneers will head to Ewing, N.J., on Saturday, Feb. 4, to take on The College of New Jersey in an NJAC tilt slated for 3:00 p.m.
