Misses cost Mustangs in 76-64 loss to Hood

Owings Mills, Md. – Missed shots pile up and cost Mustangs in 76-64 loss to Hood College Wednesday night. 
 
First Half
 
While Hood College's Michael Wallace put the first points on the board, the Mustangs turned the ball over four times in the game's first three minutes. Despite the SU  mishaps, sophomore forward Cameron Smith and graduate student guard Connor Walsh sank back-to-back threes to give the Mustangs a lead. However, Stevenson's advantage didn't last long, as a good free throw from Soren Almquist gave the Blazers the lead. At the 10:36 mark, junior guard Cameron Sapienzatied the game at 20 before the Mustangs stretched to a four-point lead. Hood defended well and forced Mustang misses as the Blazers rallied to a 12-point advantage at the half. 
 
Second Half
 
The Blazers increased their advantage to 16 points within the first two minutes of the second half. Senior forward Bo Wesley entered the game and collected his first of three blocks in the half. At the 12-minute mark, Sapienza hit a three to get the crowd fired up. Despite two more Wesley blocks, the Mustangs struggled offensively. The Blazers went on to extend the margin to 20 with five minutes remaining and held on to the lead for the rest of the game.

Following the loss, the Mustangs fall to 11-8 (5-5 MACC) and will next travel to Lebanon Valley to take on the Dutchmen on Saturday, Jan. 28 with a 4 p.m. tipoff. Hood improves to 11-8 (5-5 MACC) to tie the Mustangs, and will next travel to Eastern University on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 3 p.m.
