Delaney Makes Five 3-Pointers in Knights' Loss at RIT

Rochester, NY – The home team was hot from start to finish, shooting above 58% in each half, as RIT downed the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team 82-68 in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights saw their mark fall to 5-11 overall and 2-7 in conference games, while RIT improved to 8-8 and 4-5. Clarkson will be on its third consecutive road trip next weekend when it takes on Bard College and Vassar College.

Clarkson did lead in the early going as RIT didn't convert a field goal attempt until the 17:00 mark, but at that point the Tigers, shooting 66.7% from the field for the rest of the half. RIT edged out by 14 after nine minutes, but four 3-pointers by the Knights saw Clarkson reduce the gap to four points at the 8:01 mark. RIT responded with an 11-0 run over the next four minutes, but thanks to a five-point stretch in the final minute for Clarkson, including a 3-pointer at the end of the half from Blake Gearhart, the Knights trailed by just seven at the break.

RIT's continued strong shooting in the second half pushed the margin back to double figures quickly, and the Knights were down by double figures for the remainder of the game, with the margin shuffling from the low teens to as many as 22 at the midway point of the second period.

Garret Delaney had a standout game from the perimeter, shooting 5-for-9 from beyond the arc and 7-for-13 overall for 19 points to lead the Golden Knights. Blake Gearhart and Ryan Miles-Ferguson each chipped in 11 points for the Knights, and Finn Cork added 10 points (5-for-7 shooting) as well as six rebounds.

For RIT, two players finished in double figures, but it was nearly five. Kevin Ryan shot 9-for-10 from the floor for 22 points and Matt Caggiano added 12 points, while Keegan Ocorr, Andrew Fox, and Mark Osime each had nine points for the Tigers.
