Guilford Gets Road Win Behind Burch and Dearman

The Guilford College men's basketball team traveled to play the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins. The 17th-ranked Quakers and their defense were able to get the better of the Marlins, 65-47. 

Guilford (15-3, 8-1) came out of the gate hot scoring nine-straight points. For early part of the first half, Guilford was able to keep Virginia Wesleyan (13-5, 5-5) under double digits while growing its own lead.

For the second part of the first half, the Marlins were able to get some offense going but were unable to get a stop on defense. The Quakers answered the Marlins and ended the half on an 8-0 run to make the score 32-15. 


The second half started with both teams going back and forth. This was the story of the second half, where Guilford was just looking to maintain its comfortable lead. The Quakers were able to hold the Marlins to four points in the last five minutes of the half to close out the game for the 18-point victory.

The leaders for the Quakers were Tyler Dearman with an outstanding double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds along with Julius Burch with a double-double of his own with 12 points and rebounds. Guilford controlled the offensive boards with 14 as the team scored15 second-chance points as well as controlling the paint, 30-14.

The Quakers look to continue their momentum as they stay on the road to take on Hampden-Sydney Wednesday evening (January 25) at 7:00 p.m.
