Ithaca, NY – The opponents shot a season-high 55.1% from the floor and the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team couldn't keep pace as the Golden Knights fell to Ithaca College 99-69 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights dropped to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in league contests, while Ithaca remained in first place in the conference at 10-4 and 6-1. Clarkson will continue its seven-game road swing next weekend when the team takes on Hobart College and RIT.
Clarkson scored the opening basket of the game when Jack Dalgety nailed a jumper, but that was the only time that the Golden Knights would lead in the contest. Ithaca hit nine 3-pointers in the first half and held a rebound advantage of nine in the first half, scoring 58 points in the first 20 minutes, including two 3-pointers from Andrew Geschickter in the final 30 seconds of the half.
Despite trailing by 30 at the break, Clarkson rallied to within 12 with 11 minutes remaining in the game, when Ryan Miles-Ferguson hit a 3-pointer to put the score at 68-56. At that point, Clarkson had scored 28 points in only nine minutes, matching its first-half total. That blitz of points could not be maintained, and Ithaca responded with an 11-0 run in a stretch of two-and-a-half minutes, and the Bombers never looked back, returning their advantage to 30 at the conclusion of the game.
Senior Ryan Miles-Ferguson scored a team-high 17 points on 5-for-12 shooting with three 3-point field goals. Sophomore Jack Dalgety notched 12 points, and Blake Gearhart added 11 points and four assists.
Ithaca's 55.1% shooting from the field was the highest percentage allowed by the Golden Knights over its past 25 games. Luka Radovich scored 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting and Andrew Geschickter added 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting in just 17 minutes of play.
