Quakers Blitz Cougars for Home Win

The 21st-ranked Guilford College men's basketball team hosted Averett University. Quakers grasp early lead and outlast the Cougars, 62-42. 

The game started off with a Quaker (13-3, 6-1) nine-point run consisting of two three-pointers by Luke Proctor and Jorden Davis. Guilford never looked back and continued to build on its lead.

In the first half, the Quaker's biggest lead was 17, this came early on with a score of 23-6. Averett (6-11, 2-6) tried to capture some momentum from Guilford but was unsuccessful. At half the Quakers held a lead of 34-22.


Coming out of halftime Guilford continued to silence the Averett offense, by going on a 13-point run. Once Guilford had a commanding lead, the Quakers then slowed down their game to control the clock. The Quakers continued to play good defense to keep the Cougars out of the game as the home team won by 20.

Davis controlled the game with 23 points and three steals, while Julius Burch had eight points and 12 rebounds. Guilford was able to score 34 of their points off turnovers, while only giving up seven points off of turnovers. 

The Quakers take on Roanoke University next for a big ODAC match-up, at home on Wednesday, January 18 at 7 pm.
