Trinity Men's Basketball Improves To 14-1 With Win Over Eastern Nazarene

HARTFORD, Conn. - First-year forward Jarrel Okorougo (Stoneham, Mass.) had 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 80-59 victory over the visiting Eastern Nazarene College Lions in men's basketball action this evening on Ogrodnik Court at Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity improves to 14-1 for the first time since 2003-04 with its fifth victory in a row and will visit New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Connecticut College on Friday at 7 p.m.  Eastern Nazarene falls to 6-8 and will host New England College on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Trinity fell behind, 4-0, early after two baskets by Eastern Nazarene's Levi White but the Bantams went on a 13-2 run and led, 13-6, on a long three-pointer by sophomore forward Sean Macarchuk (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.).  A trey by Trinity senior captain C.J. Redd (Peekskill, N.Y.) gave the home team a double-digit lead at 26-15 with 6:38 on the clock and the Bantams scored the final 10 points of the first half, including the last four by Okorougo, to lead, 37-20, at intermission.  Redd paced Trinity with nine points at the break.  Two more consecutive buckets by Okorougo gave Trinity a 42-23 shortly after halftime but the Lions battled and trailed by just eight at 54-46 midway through the second frame on two free throws by Nicholas Manso.  The Bantams pulled away late with a 12-2 run over the game's final 4:19, including five points by junior guard Gilbert Otoo (Burtonsville, Md.). 

Okorougo finished 8-for-11 from the floor to lead the Bantams in scoring, while Redd added 14 points, Otoo scored 12 points, and rookie Henry Vetter (Kenilworth, Ill.) contributed 12 points and five assists.  Trinity sophomore guard Will Dorion (Needham, Mass.) had five points, six boards, and eight assists, and Macarchuk recorded nine points and eight rebounds.  White led all scorers with 19 points to go with eight rebounds, Kobe Jones scored 12 points and JaWaun Moore had 10 points for the Lions.  Trinity more than doubled Eastern Nazarene's total on the glass with a 46-22 rebounding edge to offset 19 turnovers and eight missed free throws.  The Lions were 15-for-17 from the foul line but Trinity shot 52.6 percent from the field (30-57) and scored 44 points in the paint to 18 for the visitors.
