GREENCASTLE, Indiana - January 7, 2023 - A slow start was too much to overcome for Hiram in a 76-52 loss to DePauw on Saturday at Neal Fieldhouse.

The Terriers trailed 11-0 to start the game and eventually finished with a season-low 52 points. Hiram fought hard on both ends of the floor, doubling their opposition in offensive rebounds (12 to 6) and winning the turnover battle (11 TO committed, 14 TO forced).

Trent Jakacki led the way with team-highs in points (15) and steals (3). The sophomore now leads the team with 15.9 PPG this season.

Doug Sartain and Dushawn Hill spearheaded the second unit with a combined 18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Despite the loss, the Terriers nearly matched their opposition in bench points (23 to 29).

The loss gives Hiram a 3-3 NCAC record and 8-6 overall record. DePauw moves to 3-2 in conference play and 11-3 overall.

Sartain and Hill got the Terriers offense going by scoring the team's first points of the game off the bench. Sartain's 10-point performance gave him a 5th straight game with double-digit points, extending the longest such streak of his collegiate career.

Jakacki would highlight the remainder of the first half, scoring 14 of his 15 points in the final 9 minutes of the period. Similar to Sartain, Jakacki extended his career-long streak of double-digit scoring performances (7 straight).

DePauw's defensive effort proved to be the difference for the remainder of the contest; it held Hiram to a 29% FG pct and 5 three-pointers. The Tigers currently lead the NCAC in PPG allowed (64.6) and PPG differential (+8.5).

Hiram will return home and play Wabash on Wednesday at 5 p.m. from Price Gymnasium.
